Week 12 Story: Cronos the Hero

Cronos the Hero

Cronos was traveling for many days until he had reached a barren country of rock with not a single living person in sight. In this dead region, he saw a man eating fire and Cronos wanted to see what was up about him. Cronos approached the man and asked what he was doing here and the man replied that his name was Gentry the Flame and that he was the strongest person ever and could do as he pleased. Cronos of course replied that he was the stronger warrior and that no one could destroy him. Gentry laughed and spit a fireball onto Cronos burning some of his armor in the process. Cronos immediately drew his sword and removed his garment before it could burn his skin. Cronos at first couldn't think of a way to close the distance between him and Gentry who could obviously do a lot of damage at range. Eventually Cronos thought to throw his sward with enough force at Gentry to kill him. He did exactly that and was able to obtain Gentry's fire ability. Cronos now had the ability to produce fire as well as the abilities of other foes he's defeated. Cronos did not understand this phenomena but attributed his newfound power to the gods.
Cronos continued his adventures and eventually found himself in a meadow which hed like to make his home. Each day he scowered the surrounding area to gather materials from his new home. He stored the materials in a tree each day, however, he began to notice that each day some of his materials had gone missing. Cronos assumed that whoever was stealing his materials was likely watching him and waiting for him to leave each day. Cronos decided he was going to pretend to leave but hide somewhere and observe what happens. The next day he pretended to leave and while watching began to hear a noise coming from the river near where he was going to make his home. Cronos watched someone arise from the water and when he arose he asked why Cronos was hiding. Cronos replied, "Because someone has been stopping me from making a home here, was it you?". The man replied, "Yes, it was me Jamiki and I cannot let you live here because all of this is here is mine." Jamiki asked if Cronos had any last words before he slays him. Jamiki was somewhat large with a long grey beard and a very slimy skin texture. Cronos went to strike him with his sword but missed because Jamiki was so slimey. Cronos seemed helpless for a second not knowing how we would destroy this river monster. Then he rememebd he gained the abilities from Gentry the Flame and decided to engulf his sword and fire before his next strike. Cronos rushed him again finally striking Jamiki and he fell dead.

Authors Note: For this story, I decided to take the original story of Makoma which is an African hero tale, and adapt it to be my own unique hero story. In the original story, Makoma was able to acquire the abilities of the foes he defeats and I wanted to make sure I implemented that. Another key aspect of the story of Makoma had a battle with a ferocious river monster I adapted that by retaining some of the key aspects of the fight.

  1. Hi Wesley!
I really like your story! When I first started reading it, I thought that you were telling or re-telling a Greek myth because you used the name Cronos in your story! I was trying to figure out where the titan fit in for a while! Cronos getting powers from someone he kills is interesting. Will he get powers from Jamiki as well?

  2. Hi Wesley! Very creative story! I had not read the original version of the story so I went back and did that really quickly so I had a better understanding of what you had changed. At first when I was reading this story I thought it was going to be a trickster tale like the one I have been doing which would have been funny. Although your story is not very far from the original, I really enjoyed your own version of it! Great story!
