Week 5 Story: Greg, His Friends, and the Game

Greg, His Friends, and the Game     Greg and his friends were playing Call of Duty Warzone and were at the final circle meaning they were about to win. One of his friends was dead and had to spectate Greg and his other friend. Greg wanted to sit back and see where the last team was, while his other friend that was alive wanted to play aggressively and push out and find them. The dead friend the one that is spectating said that they should attempt to buy him back, meaning he would be able to come back and help them. The problem was each of Greg's friends' plans required him to leave his best camping spot. Despite, what his mind was telling him Greg decided to go along with both of his friends' plans. He told the friend that was alive to push out and buy his friend back while he pushes out and provides covering fire. Both of his friends agreed and decided this was the plan.   Tales of Nasruddin Author: Laura Gibbs Part B: Itching and Scratching This is a short humorous story where Nasruddin and his wife are sleeping in bed. Nasruddin and his wife share a small house, bed, and even sleep on a single pillow together. One night Nasruddin had an itch so bad that it had woke him up from his sleep. He kept scratching his head but the itch wouldn't go away. Then his wife wakes up and yells "stop scratching my head I'm trying to sleep!" Nasruddin apologized and told her to go back to sleep and then felt around until he found his head. Reading Notes - Tales of Nasruddin Part A

Tales of Nasruddin Author: Laura Gibbs Part A: Nasruddin, His Son, and the Donkey This is a short story where Nasruddin was going into town with his son. In the beginning, Nasruddin rode while his son rode the horse. On their trip, someone saw them and was disgusted and asked why must your father walk. In order to please the wishes of the man the son got off and Nasruddin got on the horse. Further down along the road there was another unpleasant encounter where someone scoffed at Nasruddin calling him a cruel father for making his son walk. In order to please him, they both rode the donkey. Further along the road again unpleased with what they were seeing a bystander says "poor donkey, carrying two riders!". Next, they both get off and walk and the final person they saw laughed and made fun of Nasruddin and his son saying that at least one them should ride the donkey.  Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback & Be a Mirror: Give Readers Feedback That Fosters a Growth Mindset     I chose different articles this semester but I still remember the concepts from How to Give Feedback Without Sounding Like a Jerk. I think feedback is extremely important and I am pretty confident in my ability to do so. The first article about trying feedforward instead of feedback discusses a number of ways in which being feedforward can elicit a less uncomfortable response from the listener. It discusses one thing which I found very interesting which was that people do not take feedforward as personally as feedback. Being feedforward means giving positive suggestions or objective advice that cannot be misinterpreted as a personal critique which often feels like an attack. The second article discussed being a mirror and discusses a number of qualities adjacent to the growth mindset. The author discusses that our mindsets or malleable and can be shaped towards a more growt

Topic Research  The topic I am declaring to further is Japanese fairy tales, I am a big fan of the number of characters I can use in my stories with such a vast amount of supernatural characters in Japanese literature.  Kitsune Kitsune is known as a fox in English and is a common aspect of Japanese folklore. Stories are known to depict foxes as intelligent beings possessing paranormal abilities. I am actually extremely familiar with this concept from one of the animes I have watched. This is just one of the many characters I could use in my stories.  Source Nine-tailed fox spirit ( Source: Wikipedia Japanese Portal ) Tengu Tengu is a type of legendary creature and considered a type of supernatural being in Japanese folklore. What makes them cool is they are traditionally depicted with both human and avian characteristics. This is just another fun aspect I could play with and I see a lot of potential with Tengu as a character in a story.

Week 3 Story: The Land of the Giants

 The Land of the Giants      The story begins with a proud warrior by the name of Octavio and his crew on a journey. Octavio had heard of a foreign place by the name of The Land of the Giants. He and his crew took 4 days to arrive there by ship. The only knowledge Octavio had of the Giants was that they were known to be aggressive and that they did not believe in labor. He also knew that they spent the majority of their time in caves and they have no general regard for their neighbors. The lifestyle of a giant did not require them to have transportation. Octavio noticed when he arrived how fertile the land they were on was and that a place like this would yield great harvests. The arrival at the land of the giants took many days and it was already pitch black, so Octavio and the crew decided to sleep where they landed.  Sevens Ways to Crush Self-Doubt & Make Good Art: Neil Gaiman's Advice on the Creative Life        First off my thoughts on feedback specifically from your peers are that I find it very beneficial. I really enjoyed going back to my blogposts in Indian Epics and reading what my classmates had to say on posts. Last semester we did the same thing and I focused on  How to Tame Your Inner Critic: A Simple Habit to Rewire Your Brain & Why it's so hard to hear negative feedback and I found both of those articles very helpful. The first article I looked at for this semester focused on crushing self-doubt. It highlighted a number of tactics you could use in order to accomplish this. 2 of those that stuck out to me the most were embracing a growth mindset which we have instilled already this semester and trusting yourself. Both of these will lead to the self-confidence you need to advance yourself and embracing vulnerability. The second article by Neil Gaiman focused on a number

Topic Brainstorm

 Topic Brainstorm After browsing the project ideas index I have chosen the 4 following topics that I am the most interested in: Option 1. The first topic I found the most interesting to advance in was The Greek Underworld. I have some knowledge of the three godbrothers Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. I am a big fan of the Percy Jackson movie series and that is where my interest and background on this topic come from. I think it would be cool to write a story of my own of three godbrothers. I believe my imaginative nature might be able to make some good stories out of this topic.  Resource Link Option 2. The second topic I am interested in exploring for the semester project is Japanese fairy tales. I am a really big fan of anime and some of my stories in Indian epics derived from my interest in anime. Susanoo Retold      The story begins with Suso who on the way to hunt found a chopstick flowing down the river. Obviously curious Suso figured there must be people at the river bank and decided he wanted to see what kind of people they were. In a world where there are gods, humans, fairies, and other mythological creatures he found it important to find out what kind of people they are because he has not seen humans in this area before. While walking up the river he stumbles upon 3 people a bearded old man his wife and the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Inquiring as to what kind of people they were and they introduced themselves as humans and descendants of fairies. He noticed that they seemed troubled and asked what was wrong. They began to delve into the story of they got there and that they are actually mourning the deaths of their 8 daughters. They tell Suso that they are targeted by the serpent Lord Orochi who has killed their daughters and others of their kind to ob

Reading Notes: Week 2 Anthology

  Romance of Old Japan, Part I: Mythology and Legend by E. W. Champney and F. Champney (1917). The Divine I enjoyed this story the most and found it to be the most interesting. I think after reading this was the one that stood to have the most potential for the background to a story.
